Dear 2020 Baby...

From St. Louis Maternity and Newborn Photographer Amber Sargent

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone. It’s nearly impossible to find someone who has not been deeply affected by COVID-19 somehow in their daily lives. When times get tough, it can be easy to get sucked into the darkness of negative thoughts and social isolation. It is important to remember, even in the darkest of times, you must find the light at the end of the tunnel showing you the way.

I came across this poem and just had to share it. These kinds of poems really tug on the heartstrings. Babies are such blessings, and even if you did not have a baby this year, your children are still the light of your life. If you are feeling down, just spend 5 minutes soaking up the sweet innocence of a child.

If you ask me, there is nothing better.

Motherhood is the most amazing gift of life.

Dear 2020 Baby—Thank You For Being a Light In the Darkness

You’ve been the light in the darkness.

The calm in the chaos.

The joy in the midst of a whole lot of hardship and pain and frustration.

So I know people will talk about 2020.

They’ll talk about the stress and the fear and the sadness.

They’ll recount every bit of the hard stuff that’s brought tears to my eyes more times than I can count.

But my sweet baby, I’m just so glad that, when I think back on this year, I also get to think about you.

Because you’re such a gift.

The sweetest blessing.

And even though things looked a little (okay—a lot) different than I’d planned, and it certainly wasn’t always easy or comfortable, your timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

So thank you, little one.

Thank you for allowing me to be grateful for 2020.

Because it gave me you.
