Embracing Winter: A Cozy January Maternity Session at Busch Wildlife in St. Charles, Missouri

Many of my mom clients debate back and forth about having an indoor studio maternity session, or outdoor maternity session in the wintertime. I am always willing to hold a maternity session outdoors, as long as its not TOO cold! We can even watch the weather, and try for snow. Today, I wanted to share this recent session from Busch Wildlife in Defiance. We did get very lucky with the weather, but the original day we had scheduled ended up being a high of 7 degrees, so we opted to reschedule of course. I am always willing to work with my clients to get them the best dream session possible!
The glowing expectant mother, Hannah, chose 3 gowns from my complimentary studio wardrobe to wear for her session. She chose the navy Grace, merlot Monroe, and mauve Clara. They were all perfect choices for an outdoor session: classic and flattering. Hannah’s hair and makeup was flawless, compliments of my hair and makeup artist, Lindsay Martin from Refine Beauty.
We visited 3 locations: the pine forest, which is always a client favorite, an open field, and some tall grasses with a path. We changed dresses at each location for variety and I helped Hannah choose which dress to wear at each spot.
The other star of the show was the perfectly warm winter sunset. We caught the glowing sun both in the pine forest and in the field, and at the last location the soft evening light was just perfect.
